A 30% discount on Microsoft 365 E3 is not a campaign
Alvin Paronda on Microsoft's 30% E3 promotion: partners who lead with what changes for a customer's team will beat those who lead with the percentage.

A 30% discount on Microsoft 365 E3 is not a campaign, and the partners who treat it like one will lose to the partners who lead with what changes for the customer's team. Microsoft has handed partners a strong reason to start a conversation, but the percentage should be the last thing a buyer hears, not the first.
Why this matters now
On 26 October 2026, Microsoft Partner Center announced a promotion that takes 30% off what partners pay for Microsoft 365 E3, in both its Teams and no-Teams versions. It runs from 27 October 2026 to 30 June 2027 and applies to new CSP subscriptions of at least 300 licences on an annual commitment. There are customer criteria too: fewer than half their seats already on Office 365 E3, under 5% on Microsoft 365, and no Office 365 renewal in 2026.
The timing is not an accident. Microsoft stopped supporting the LTSC 2021 versions of Office, Project and Visio on 13 October 2026, and Microsoft's own guidance points enterprises to Microsoft 365 E3 as the first upgrade path. It also points out that Copilot needs the cloud versions of the Office apps that come with a Microsoft 365 suite, so on-premises Office customers miss out.
My view
Too many partner promotions land in inboxes as "Save 30% on E3 before June". It's easy to send, it fills a slide, and it trains the buyer to think the only thing you bring is a better price than the partner down the road.
A 300-seat customer moving from perpetual Office is not making a licensing decision. They are making a change to how hundreds of people work every day: where files live, how meetings run, how security is managed, and whether AI tools will work for them at all. The discount makes the decision cheaper. It does not make it any clearer.
Microsoft seems to agree. Its own partner guidance frames the offer as a way in to workshops, proofs of concept, deployment and adoption services. That is the real opportunity, and the percentage is just the door.
What partners should do
If you sell Microsoft 365 to mid-sized and enterprise customers, start with the people who are now on unsupported software. Lead with three things their team will notice in the first month: what gets safer, what gets easier, and what becomes possible, Copilot included. Then show the price, with the promotion making the business case easier to sign.
Founders and marketing leads at partner firms should resist the urge to build a campaign around a number. Build it around the customer's Monday morning after the move, and use the offer to give them a reason to act before June.
Marketers at partner firms can also be smarter about who they target. Microsoft says the offer will be built into Cloud Ascent from 1 December 2026, so eligible accounts will be easier to find. That's a good moment to have your story ready.
Where I land
Discounts open doors. Stories about people's work get the deal signed and keep the customer happy once the promotion ends. So here's my question for other Microsoft partners: when you run this offer, what will your first sentence be?
